FC Kairat Almaty (Kazakh: Қайрат Алматы Футбол Клубы) is a Kazakh football club, playing in Almaty Central Stadium, Almaty.
Like many clubs in the Soviet Union they went through a number of name changes in their history. They were known Dinamo Almaty when founded in 1952, before changing in 1954 to Lokomotiv Almaty, and later Urozhai Almaty, before settling on Kairat. They were the leading Kazakh team during the Soviet era, the only ever club to compete at the Soviet Top League, and to win the Soviet First League (second tier of competition) in both 1976 and 1983. The team achieved an all time high Soviet Super League finish of 7th in 1986 and altogether spent 24 seasons in the Soviet top division, a record for a Central Asian team. During the existence of the USSR Kairat Almaty was a part of the Voluntary Sports Society Kairat.
The club also has a highly successful Futsal team AFC Kairat, who has been Kazakh champions in 2003-2008 seasons and reached semi-finals of UEFA Futsal Cup in three recent seasons.
In May 2011, Armand Masimzhanov was banned for life by the Football Federation of Kazakhstan after launching an aggressive high Kung Fu-style kick into the back of FC Lokomotiv Astana's Radmir Muksinova during a game.[1]

FC Kairat Almaty was the first Soviet Team to win a European Cup. It happened in 1971 in Almaty, when Kairat beat FC Rapid Bucharest with 2-1 and clinched European Railworks Cup, a defunct club tournament now. After the Football Union of Kazakhstan joined UEFA, Kairat played in qualifying rounds of European cups three times, but never progressed a single round.

In the end of 2006 season, the main sponsor of the club - Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (National railways company) withdrew. This precipitated a financial crisis which lasted until the very start of 2007 season. Consequently, most players switched to other teams. The club entered the 2007 season with an inexperienced young team. In July 2007 a group of private investors took over the club and invested around 4m USD. The club progressed to the quarter final of the National Cup of Kazakhstan and was very close from relegation finishing 13th position that season. In the beginning of 2009 the club declared itself bankrupt and relegated to First Division. In November, 2009, Kairat has become the Champion of First Division and got back into Kazakhstani Premier League.
In 2001 : CSKA Almaty joined into Kairat Almaty.
